6 Tips For Getting Your Work Done...When You Don't Want To
1. Plan Ahead
One of the most important things I have found when it comes to getting my work done is planning ahead. TIME MANAGEMENT is everything. I like to open the "Stickies" app on my MacBook, which is basically like little sticky notes that show up on your desktop. Each week, I write a to-do list of things I need to get done. I add tasks as they come and (the best feeling) remove them as I get them done. Being able to see what you need to get done in front of you helps instead of just trying to remember it on your own. Some people also rely on calendars or planners for this. Whatever works for you!
2. Waking Up Early😬
I know this might be hard for some, it still is for me. BUT life is so much easier when you wake up at a decent time, so you have the whole day to get your work done. One of the worst feelings in the world is trying to cram everything you have to get done into a few hours. Once you get your work done, you can nap.
3. Stick To Your Schedule
This is hard for those with short attention spans...(me). It is easy to get distracted, especially when you aren't enjoying the work you have to get done, but try your best to stick to what you planned out for yourself!
4. Find A Place That Works For You
Personally, I can never get work done in my room. All I want to do in my room is lay in bed and nap. It helps to find a place where you can focus to get your work done. Some people like the library and some like the student center. You have to find a place that works for you. I promise, when you find a place you can get motivated and focused in, getting unwanted work done is soooo much easier!
5. Reward Yourself
One of my favorite things and most important things when it comes to getting work done is rewarding myself when I get a task done. If I have more than one thing to get done in a day, I like to take a little mental break in between and reward myself with a snack or some time on my phone. It helps keep me motivated while doing work, knowing there is something waiting for me when I'm done.
6. Put Down Your Phone
Putting down your phone while doing work is probably the easiest and most important tip I can share. As someone who can get sidetracked and distracted pretty easily, I need to force myself to put down my phone when I'm doing work. Don't even let yourself to take a break mid-way through a task because YOU WILL get distracted. "5 minutes on Instagram or Snapchat" turns into 20 minutes for me. It ruins my motivation and messes up the whole schedule I set up for myself.
I hope these tips can help you get your work done! These tips have helped me a lot since I started to really use them while doing my school work.
