Creating a Healthy Lifestyle

Creating a healthy lifestyle for yourself can be done at any time. It's not too late! Everyone gets stuck in unhealthy cycles throughout their life. These can be brought on by boredom, stress, or you just simply fall out of a routine. I am currently in the process of creating my own healthy lifestyle, so I have some tips to share.


Being in college, it is honestly pretty hard to upkeep a healthy routine and lifestyle. Finding time to cook your own meals can be difficult when you're busy doing schoolwork, so sometimes it is easier to just order out. This is where the unhealthy cycle begins. When attempting to turn your lifestyle around, it is important to be motivated. You want to be motivated to be your best self for you...not because of someone else. In order for this to work you have to be in it 100%.


It all starts with what you put into your body. ("You are what you eat")

Starting with a healthy diet will set up your healthy lifestyle. Getting into the routine of cutting out junk food is the hardest part, but once you start it comes easy. For breakfast I like to have yogurt and fruit, eggs and toast or an english muffin with peanut butter, or avocado toast topped with hard boiled egg. (My favorite!) I try to eat things like waffles, pancakes, and especially bagels as little as possible. Try your best not to skip breakfast! Throughout the day I like to have snacks like cut up veggies and hummus, popcorn, a piece of fruit. For lunch I usually have a salad packed with veggies like carrots, cut up peppers, cucumber, and tomatoes. I also often top it off with a cut up black bean burger or veggie burger. This keeps me full until dinner time. Some of my favorite dinners to make are Trader Joe's vegetable fried rice and I add chicken and broccoli, brown rice pasta with garlic and olive oil with broccoli, or grilled chicken with rice and veggies. Restricting your eating is not the way to go. A healthy lifestyle consists of nourishing your body, not depriving it.


Exercising and getting active will aid in creating a healthy lifestyle. If you are new to working out, it is important to start out slow and ease your way into it. Create a workout routine that works for you and that you are comfortable with. There are so many Youtuber's and Instagram tutorials on workout routines that you can use to get started. One of my favorite tips is to get workout clothes that you like and feel comfortable in. This will get you motivated and excited to get use out of the clothes!


Getting starting on turning your unhealthy habits into good ones is the hardest part, but once you get into a routine and get motivated, it eventually becomes easier. I'm excited to continue on creating my own healthy lifestyle and I hope you decide to join me!
